For quite a long time, American writing has filled in as sign on the intensity of words to express support for change by making a source of inspiration. In reality, writing â€Å"the workmanship that communicates life in words† (Tanvir, Para. 4) can change the far reaching human race. Thusly, writing fills in as a record of the considerable number of dreams that rolled out such improvement a chance since the beginning. Each progressive period, writing starts and finishes with incredible scholars imparting their own message to their proposed perusers. As needs be, in her short story â€Å"The Story of an Hourâ₠¬ Chopin tells the story of Mrs. Mallard’s response to the demise of her significant other, rather than dreading the hopeless widow a very long time in front of her; she flounders upon an alternate understanding all together. What Islam Bestows To Humanity Religion Essay

What Islam Bestows To Humanity Religion Essay Theoretical Humankind needs Islam for its profound change. It needs Islam to live joyfully and effectively in this life. It needs Islam to discover salvation in the life to come. Islam is the religion of truth and it advisers for all that is acceptable. WHAT ISLAM BESTOWS TO HUMANITY? Practically all good or strict change restoration developments before Islam rose as responses against existing requests. This discloses with regards to why they were uneven neglected to address all part of human life. For instance, Taoism-a Chinese form of magic instructed a degenerate and bad habit ridden China to disregard material joys. Confucianism-a widely appealing methodology was against these standards and called upon the individuals who had withdrawn to religious communities to look for otherworldly sanitization and individual devotion in and through the thicks of life to set up a prudent state and carry on with a public activity among the individuals. Indias huge rich land was attacked a few times, which made its religions become extremely magical. Likewise, austerity developed as a response against the already common extravagance and debauchery. [1] Likewise Judaism was vigorously this common in its methodology. Christianity, then again, especially before all else, gre w a lot as a supernatural religion. It was a disclosure, as Jesus Christ himself underlined, for a specific country at a specific time and specifically conditions, as was not the last and complete Divine message. [2] Only Muhammad (PBUH) developed a the last Prophet of God to uncover His fact. Prior to this, polytheism and different variations of skepticism were predominant: Most of humankind didn't put stock in God, however connected different divine beings with Him. [3] As individuals estimated not God with His actual measureâ [4]â , some accepted that He had a child while others mistakenly believed the blessed messengers to be His daughters.â [5]â The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) uncovered reality with regards to God and uncompromisingly accentuated His Unity. With him, God consummated His religion and announced that the genuine religion with Him is Islamâ [6]â and: in this way, whoso wants another religion than Islam, it will not be acknowledged of him and in the following scene he will be among the losersâ [7]â . God uncovered that the message , the prophet of islam, brought was universal,â [8]â that he talked just what was uncovered to him, and that he didn't talk on his own position. We delegated for you a Messenger from among you with the goal that he will recount to you Our signs, refine you, and show you the Book, shrewdness, and what you don't know. [9] Such realities were predicted by Jesusâ [10]â and referenced in the Quranâ [11]â . Just decontaminated spirits can utilize science and innovation to profit mankind. On the off chance that this reality is disregarded, such information can prompt passing distruct ion as we saw in the twentieth century. Just cleansed spirits completely acquainted with science and innovation can lead mankind toward genuine bliss here and salvation in the here after.â [12]â Any religion or framework that comes up short on the standards of profound immaculateness or the states of a temperate public activity can't give genuine satisfaction. As will be clarified, Islam gives a total direction to our lives here and in the great beyond. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was sent as the gift for all the universes, thus there is no compelling reason to restore the Divine message through another Prophet-inasmuch as we hold the endless and uncorrupted Quran,â [13]â â Sunnah of the prophet (PBUH). Islam presents for humankind an impartial, reasonable and complete arrangement of life, for while it lifts up the human soul and recommends perfect moral and otherworldly standards for man, it doesn't preclude the significance from claiming the material part of his life either. [14] It is fairly a thorough lifestyle, profoundly and really, in the inner voice of the person just as in the conduct of the general public, and remembers the standards of social rights and commitments for all dealings, regardless of whether they relate to financial matters, legislative issues or to global relations. [15] Some individuals battle that Islam, presently 1,400 years of age, is out of date and old fashioned and, that new direction is required. Such a statement is absolutely unwarranted, for Islam was uncovered by God as an unceasing last message of God to mankind. Further, the Quran guarantees us that not just the Quran was uncovered by God Almighty yet it would likewise be introduced by H im. The individuals who feel that Islam has had its influence once, and now it is useless to endeavor its resurrection, are working under grave misinterpretation. The bubbling of its wave-is as yet twisting the waters as the results of the Islamic transformation are in no way, shape or form depleted. Islam is bound to beat every other religion. What's more, this attestation desire for Quran is yet to be appeared in full. It will be acknowledged in any case with us o without us is a different inquiry. Also, Islam is routed to fundamental human instinct, insofar as his inclination continues as before the direction stay usable viable. It is an advanced fantasy that everything is liable to change. Human instinct show an excellent harmony between components of changelessness and change: Outward structures change, while basic standards, essential qualities, and basic human instinct and necessities do not. [16] Islam is the main religion that grasps all elements of life and has a set up technique that considers the lasting development of human culture as per lifes key standards and perpetual values. [17] It is a viewpoint which shows itself in all shades of human conduct. In this way the Islamic idea of social, political and moral request is more concrete and unmistakable than of some other religion.â [18]â Humankind The Islamic idea of religion as a total code of life has in truth spiritualized all parts of human presence. It was heretofore felt that the soul and matter are substances basically contradicted to one another. Religion is concerned uniquely with the spirit and has nothing to do with unremarkable exercises of human body which float him towards underhanded. The wickedness of human instinct, particularly the alleged fundamental fiendishness of the body, prompted the outright concealment of the entire arousing side of man. The possibility of a strict man was that of an incredibly segregated , unsocial being. To escape from the social request, and take up the single life is the presupposition of salvation. It is in supreme dejection, confined from all other individuals that the strict and devout man stands eye to eye with himself and with Allah. Every individual is made out of three sections soul, brain and body. Every one of these should be fulfilled. They are so interrelated, and their requirements are diverse to such an extent, that ignoring one outcomes in our neglecting to achieve perfection.â [19]â As we read in the Quran: Fair according to men is the adoration for what they pine for: ladies, youngsters, stockpiled stacks of gold and silver, ponies of imprint, cows and tillage. [20] Our physical make-up and singular attributes produce certain tendencies, and we can neither abstain from fulfilling these desires embedded in us by the Creator nor have the option to dispose of them. This doesn't imply that individuals endeavoring to fulfill their desires are allowed to do however they see fit can't defeat their tendencies. Actually, this implies we can change our tendencies by practicing our through and through freedom, and can control our desire, outrage, and different feelings and afterward use them to push ourselves along the way of flawlessness and wisdom.â [21]â Islamic demeanor towards the physical needs of a man can be very much decided from the accompanying Hadith. It is described on the authority of Abdullah b. Amr b. Too bad that he was once asked by the sacred Prophet (PBUH) regardless of whether it was right that he watched fasts during the days and go through evenings remaining in supplication. Abdullah confirmed that. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) watched: Dont do that. Keep quick on occasion and break now and again, offer supplication and head to sleep moreover. Your body has a privilege upon you, your eyes have a privilege upon you, your better half has a privilege upon you, and your visitors have additionally a privilege upon you. [22] Just as our physical body has its own joys and torments, our soul has its own delights and afflictions also. Ailment harms the body, while the physical prosperity, wellbeing, and whatever is in concordance with its inclination gives it delight. With respect to the soul, its delights and ailments rely upon whether the lewd soul has been purified.â [23]â We all need to arrive at joy. The most consummate joy is to exemplify and show the Divine Attributes and qualities. The spirit of a really upbeat individual creates by knowing and adoring God. [24] True bliss can't be reached or held except if the entirety of the spirits resources and forces are sanitized and reformed. [25] Partial or brief Reform or cleansing won't bring about obvious joy. Similarly as a body can be viewed as solid just when the entirety of its appendages and organs are sound, individuals can achieve impeccable satisfaction just when liberated from all fiendishness telling creature interests forestalling their rising to higher realms. [26] Islam doesn't buy in to soul-body dualism. Physical inclinations are an indispensable piece of keeps an eye on nature: not the consequence of the first sin, and in this way the interest of their entombment is unnatural loaded with unnatural issues. Islam represents their change, instruction preparing so as to divert th em to better closures and beliefs. Reason left to itself could be desolate barren. It requires the simultaneousness of interests to be usable compelling. The request that Islam suggests is that our interests ought to be sub-ordinated to reason; while reason ought to be guided by disclosure. We ought to never permit the interests to go out of control. Devotion in Islam doesn't comprise in stifling the requests of the body; it targets organizing them with th

A Question About Conspicuous Consumption

A Question About Conspicuous Consumption This week we announced the Indiegogo campaign for the minimalist travel bag from our Minimalism documentary: the Pakt One. Bringing our first and only physical good to market has been a delicate balancing act, and it has, of course, raised some questions about our intentions, often from seagulls, but also from honest admirers of our work. For example, Frank, a Patreon supporter, recently asked this thoughtful question on one of our private posts: I believe that owning only a few well-made things is a giant step toward social and environmental sustainability. I’m a materialist in the true sense of the wordâ€"and this sentence always helps me with my purchase decisions. But I do worry that your Pakt project walks a thin line between your core message and the problem you are trying to expose. Do you have any concerns about this? Yes, thats a big concern. We dont want to be part of the problem we fight so vehemently againstâ€"consumerism. And we dont want to create anythingâ€"be it our writings, podcasts, films, or this bagâ€"that doesnt firmly align with our beliefs. As conscious consumers, we want our creations to add value to other peoples lives without compromising our own values. So when we decided to help create this bag, we worked with Malcolm Fontier (pictured above), who is himself a minimalist and serious environmentalist, to produce a beautiful, logo-free travel bag made only with modern, durable materials that are animal-friendly and have the lowest environmental impact. It was also important to make the bag affordable while ensuring it is manufactured in worker-friendly conditionsâ€"no sweatshops, no child labor, no exploitation. And, equally as important, we’re actively discouraging people from purchasing this bag. We don’t think its a good idea for anyone to buy the Pakt One, or any bag, unless they need a new one. Yes, its a great travel bag, and it has added more value to our lives than nearly any other item (right up there with our smartphones, computers, and beds), but its just a bagâ€"purchasing it wont make you a more complete person. True, asking our audience to not purchase something is a terrible business plan, but profit is not our primary motive here. Sure, we hope to earn some income with this projectâ€"were not allergic to moneyâ€"but, first and foremost, we want to make a useful, high-quality travel bag. And, yes, we realize it seems ironic that The Minimalists are recommending a physical good. We get itâ€"when you call yourself a “minimalist,” everything you do is instantly enveloped by a carapace irony. Oh, you own underwear? You’re not a real minimalist! You have a hairdryer? You’re such fraud! And now you’re promoting a travel bag? What a bunch of sellouts! When you get past the irony, however, the truth is that there was a need that wasnt being met by traditional bagsâ€"there wasnt a simple duffle that functions like a suitcaseâ€"and it made sense for us to be part of the solution since weve been traveling with the original version of this bag for years. As minimalists, were not against consumptionâ€"we all need some stuff. Instead, were fighting against compulsory consumption, and it is our hope that anyone who purchases the Pakt One does so with intentionâ€"not impulse. No, this isnt some sort of involuted consumerists reverse psychology. As with any new thing you bring into your life, we hope you think before you consume. And if youve thought it through, and you decide to purchase our bag because it will add value to your life, then thats great. But if you decide its unnecessary, thats great, too. Either way, youve made a deliberate decision, and thats the best outcome. For other questions about the Pakt One, visit the FAQs page. Subscribe to The Minimalists via email.

Sexual Abuse and Assault Against Women - Free Essay Example

Sexual assault is defined as any kind of sexual activity or contact that a person does not want or consent to. About 20-25% of women are sexually assaulted in college, most likely sorority girls and other females living on-campus (The Role Alcohol). Heterosexual women are less likely to be sexually assaulted or raped than homosexuals (Basile). Sexual assault is a prodigious problem that occurs all over, but, but it is most paradigmatic in colleges and universities. Universities need to do more to deter sexual assault in their walls. J.K. Rowling once said, â€Å"Indifference and neglect often do much more damage than outright dislike.† A good example of the neglect and/or indifference some universities have on sexual assault is Yale. On October 13 at Yale, Delta Kappa Epsilon (DKE) fraternity pledges chanted obscenities such as, â€Å"No means yes! Yes means anal!† and â€Å" My name is Jack, I’m a necrophiliac; I fuck dead women, and fill them with my semen!† through the residential section of Yale’s campus (Korn). The Yale Women’s Center denounced their actions as â€Å"hate speech† and â€Å"an active call for sexual violence.† Although the frat did apologize, the Yale Daily News defended the frat by labeling the response of Yale Women’s Center an â€Å"overreaction,† and claiming that â€Å"feminists at Yale should remember that, on a campus as progressive as ours, most of their battles are already won: All of us agree on gender equality.† Like DKE, the Yale Daily News has apologized for that article, but not before Yale students read the a rticle, thus, deciding to condemn the Women’s Center for its reaction; furthermore, a â€Å"pre-season scouting report† which discussed the hottest freshmen girls promulgated around the University in 2009. Another fraternity at Yale took photos of their pledges standing outside the Women’s Center holding signs that read, â€Å" We Love Yale Sluts.† Somehow, Yale’s administration has allowed, or at least neglected to take full notice, of the chauvinistic acts its students have exhibited. Another, more well-known incident is the Brock Turner Case. In January of 2015, an Emily Doe (she wished to remain anonymous) was raped behind a dumpster whilst attending a Stanford college party with her younger sister. Brock Turner, the rapist, was convicted in March and faced up to 14 years in prison. Turner received only six months in jail and three years of probation because the judge worried about the â€Å"severe impact† that a harsher punishment might leave on the elite university athlete (Miller). â€Å"A woman is found unconscious behind the dumpster, pine needles in her hair, naked, wounded, assaulted. Meanwhile, meanwhile everyone is more concerned with the assailant’s appetite, rather than the survivor’s autonomy† (Baird). Baird is referring to the Brock Turner case and the pathetic excuse his father, Dan Turner, used to get him the light sentence. In a letter he wrote in defense of his son, Dan wrote â€Å"His life will never be the one tha t he dreamed about and worked so hard to achieveThat is a steep price to pay for 20 minutes of action out of his 20 plus years of life† (Miller). Turner’s letter was in response to Ms. Emily Doe’s letter to the court. In her 12-page letter, she reiterates every last detail of the night of January 15, 2015- the day she was raped- up to the day of the court hearing. She then responds to some of the defendant’s statements, fueled with anger. Despite the incriminating evidence, Brock was still spared because of the alcohol in her system and her lack of memory. There is no one and nothing to blame for being sexually assaulted. It does not happen for one reason or another, but rather a multiple of reasons. Approximately 50% of student sexual assaults do involve alcohol, 43% of which is used by the victim and 69% used by the perpetrator. The numbers jump to 90% of rapes involving alcohol when the victim is assaulted by his/her acquaintance (The Role Alcohol). College is usually when most young adults experiment with alcohol and drugs for the first time, incapacitating them and leaving them to fall victim. Though these substances are most common for sexual assault, it’s not only reason it occurs. Only 20% of college-aged women who survive sexual assault report it (Basile). Victims might be worrisome to report out of fear or embarrassment; thus, they seal their lips and attempt to forget. â€Å"Once I forgave a predator because I was afraid to start drama in our friend groupno one around me said anything, so I didn’t say anything . Because I didn’t wanna make a scene. (Baird). Peer pressure also plays a big role in sexual assault. Being around other students their own age, many people just want to fit in, so they do things they’re uncomfortable with. Even if they don’t want to, they sip on alcohol, hesitantly take drugs with their new friends, go to parties, and maybe even engage in sexual activities like many others (Basile). In many cases, the courts and much of society blames the victim for being assaulted. Time and time again, people have said, â€Å"She should have been more careful. This is why you always stay in packs and never go off alone. She should have watched her alcohol intake. If she wasn’t drunk, then this wouldn’t have happened,† and one of the most common excuses used to justify the assailant’s actions, â€Å"With what she was wearing, she was obviously asking for it.† No one asks to be assaulted, but society keeps blaming the victim rather than the assailant’s lack of self-control. In college, the victim and the assailant are both adult s; therefore, it’s not all the victim’s fault. There have been many inventions to help prevent and reduce sexual assaults. â€Å"We had to invent nail polish to change color in drugged drinks and apps to virtually walk us home and lipstick shaped mace and underwear designed to prevent rape† (Baird). Since childhood, girls have been told to be careful, stay in groups, and warned about the girls on the news and missing milk cartons. They have been warned to watch their drinks and never trust a boy. They have been taught to live in fear, yet that still isn’t keeping them safe, but inflicting more fear and distrust towards men. These warnings have made it seem like all males are malicious, but that’s not true. In order to solve this problem of sexual assaults and misguidance- not just avert it- universities, and society as a whole, should teach the boys and girls a better way. Teach the boys how treat girls, teach the girls how to fight and trust their â€Å"gut,† and take more actions when sexual assaul t does occur. The victim should speak up when something happens, others around them should say something when they see a bad situation, and incriminate the assaulter when he has done wrong. The Integration Of Immigrants Into American Religious Life

The Integration of Immigrants into American Religious Life What is your definition of an immigrant? My definition of an immigrant is a person who moves to a foreign country and brings with them traditions and cultures, which they assimilate into their new country. During the nineteenth century, the United States was predominately a protestant nation, which experienced high levels of immigration. From countries such as Poland, Ireland, Russia, and Germany. Many of these ethnic groups were Catholic and Jewish parishioners. A rumor spread that a Jew started a fire, which led to a pogrom. A pogrom is a massacre of Jews in Russia and Eastern Europe. Due to the pogrom Jews fled to other countr ies, like the United States. Upon arrival, the Jews created synagogues just as the Irish built Catholic churches. Religion became a comfort to immigrants in their new home lands. For instance, religion was something constant that would not change no matter where they practiced. Additionally, it was a memory of their lives from their home lands. The arrival of mass groups of immigrants strengthened bonds with one another because immigrants of the same ethnicity and religion stuck together. Along with churches immigrants opened schools and hospitals too, which were affiliated with their perspective religions. For example, Catholics established Catholic schools because public schools imposed Protestant beliefs into the school curriculum. The Catholics would not stand for their children to be forcibly taught Protestant ideals. Immigrants changed American religious life because they adjusted to life in America by depending on their religious lifestyles to make them feel as home. Therefo re, giving the Protestants religious competition. Although, immigrants attempted to make America their home, non-immigrants created laws, which were not friendly towards immigrants. Immigrants were victims of quite a few vicious laws. To

On January 13, 2017, With Full Military Honors, The Body

On January 13, 2017, with full military honors, the body of Corporal Luis P. Torres, who went missing in the Korean War and presumed dead in early 1954, was finally laid to reset at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. The belated funeral was a relief to his family. Until last year, Luis’ brother had prayed for his miraculous return. Their mother firmly believed that Luis would return alive as his body was not found. His nephew has contacted with authorities and POW (prisoner of war)/MIA(missing in action) organizations for over a decade to collect information to facilitate the search for his uncle. With the positive identification of Luis Torres’ remains, the Torres family was able to trace Luis’ whereabouts in the last six decades.†¦show more content†¦Historians are also interested in the reasons for the debacle of Torres’ company in the summer of 1950, as it contributes to the unending analysis of the U.S. military tactics and battles durin g the Korean War. Moreover, Torres’ brief capture and tragic execution added fuel to the claims of the ordeals and â€Å"brainwashing† of American POWs in Korea. They not only lead to dozens of documentaries and propaganda films, but also a considerable number of books published by journalists and POW/MIA activists. In recent years, some balanced, primary-sources based studies are also available in academia. These books provide insights of how the Korean War changed American perceptions of being a POW and intimated why the country was reluctant to remember the returned prisoners and the war. However, there are more groups of intriguing questions to ask from the Torres’ story. First of all, why was his remains kept in the â€Å"Punchbowl† without his family’s request rather than in a memorial cemetery in South Korea like the U.S. soldiers resting in Meuse-Argonne after WWI, or the sacrificed servicemen in Ardennes or Manila after WWII? Secondly, how was Torres’ body recovered after he was declared missing? Key Issues or Opportunities for Management †MyAssignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about the Key Issues or Opportunities for Management. Answer: Issues In contemplating whether to go international, Consolidated Pastoral Company must consider the impact different cultural orientations will have on its business. In line with this, the cultural analysis by Hofstede will be of significant help, in helping the recruitment and training of managers and other employees to work in the proposed new markets (Hofstede, 2011). The role of regulations is not always negative. In many instances, regulations are formulated so that they can help protect local industries. They may also be employed to enhance the quality of goods and services, and thereby build a strong brand of both the country and its local industries. Efforts to review regulations must therefore consider this. In the case of international regulations, the company must apply its expertise and other resources to meet applicable regulations issued by other governments. It should also see how it can make these regulations into advantages where possible (Loayza, Oviedo Seven, 2005). Sustainable development means that while the current generation meets its current developmental goals, it does not jeopardize the ability of future generations to do the same. To achieve this, the company must ensure that its activities do not harm the environment. It must also ensure that it has applied necessary tools to encourage environmental conservation, including environmental reporting. To give back to the society for the privilege of being allowed to work within it, the organization should embark on an active corporate social responsibility programme (Dogaru, 2013). Opportunities Going international provides an excellent opportunity for the company to go beyond its current market and sell to a wider range of customers. This is likely to result in bigger profit margins, and greater brand recognition and value. The company will benefit from a strong Australian brand in terms of beef and dairy products, close proximity to mainland Australia, and the presence of existing agreements between Australia and Indonesia. These will help secure local and government support for the venture. The company must ensure it has built the necessary capacity so that it can properly take advantage of this opportunity. By going international, the company will be open be able to lower its costs of production. This will be due to the availability of cheaper labor and raw materials. At the same time, if it were to establish manufacturing plants at the source of raw materials, additional transport and logistics costs will be eliminated. References Hofstede, G. (2011). The efficiency of the workforce helps in improving the conditions of the organization in the market. the leadership qualities of the management helps in undertaking the discrepancies and solving them in order to make improvements in the market. A Force Field analysis of the company helps in determining the change that is being planned v by the organization. It has got its positive and negative impacts on the management of the organization (Antonakis, 2017). However, it helps the organization in taking decisions that might help in the process of undertaking the change. The concerned company is looking for the change and the constraints to the change are being undertaken by the organization (Refer to Appendice 3). The analysis helps in determining the requirements of the consumers to which the organization must adhere. Moreover, it determines the requirement of the organization to increase the production based on the demand of the consumers (Robbins Judge, 2012). On the other hand, it describes the important constraints to the change that is being planned by the organization. It helps in determining the cost of production and the other expenses that the company must undertake in order to make the change profitable for the bu siness. It is more like a Big Data, which gives a clear view of the situation of the company and the reason behind the change that is undertaken. Therefore, from the above discussion it can be stated that a leader takes the most important steps in bringing about the change in the organizational structure. It helps in determining the objectives of the company and thereby helps the company in achieving the common goal. The changes that are required to be undertaken by the company are determined by the situation of the organization in the market. In order to improve the situation of the company steps are required to be taken by the leader. The changes help in undertaking the improvements in the organizations situation in the market. Zechariah Essays - Biblical People In Islam, Sheep,

Zechariah Zechariah is one of the Minor Prophets of the Old Testament. His book is located between the books of Haggai and Malachi. Zechariah is thought to have preached from about 520-518 B.C. The book of Zechariah deals with the restoration of Jerusalem, the Temple, and God?s people. Chapter 11 verses 4-17, which is a story of two shepherds, is one of the most difficult passages in the Old Testament to understand. From the New Living Translation, the passage reads as follows: 4 This is what the LORD my God says: Go and care for a flock that is intended for slaughter. 5 The buyers will slaughter their sheep without remorse. The sellers will say, 'Praise the LORD, I am now rich!' Even the shepherds have no compassion for them. 6 And likewise, I will no longer have pity on the inhabitants of the land, says the LORD. I will let them fall into each other's clutches, as well as into the clutches of their king. They will turn the land into a wilderness, and I will not protect them. 7 So I cared for the flock intended for slaughter ? the flock that was oppressed. Then I took two shepherd's staffs and named one Favor and the other Union. 8 I got rid of their three evil shepherds in a single month. But I became impatient with these sheep ? this nation ? and they hated me, too. 9 So I told them, I won't be your shepherd any longer. If you die, you die. If you are killed, you are killed. And those who remain will devour each other! 10 Then I took my staff called Favo r and snapped it in two, showing that I had revoked the covenant I had made with all the nations. 11 That was the end of my covenant with them. Those who bought and sold sheep were watching me, and they knew that the LORD was speaking to them through my actions. 12 And I said to them, If you like, give me my wages, whatever I am worth; but only if you want to. So they counted out for my wages thirty pieces of silver. 13 And the LORD said to me, Throw it to the potters ? this magnificent sum at which they valued me! So I took the thirty coins and threw them to the potters in the Temple of the LORD. 14 Then I broke my other staff, Union, to show that the bond of unity between Judah and Israel was broken. 15 Then the LORD said to me, Go again and play the part of a worthless shepherd. 16 This will illustrate how I will give this nation a shepherd who will not care for the sheep that are threatened by death, nor look after the young, nor heal the injured, nor feed the healthy. Instead, this shepherd will eat the meat of the fattest sheep and tear off their hooves. 17 Doom is certain for this worthless shepherd who abandons the flock! The sword will cut his arm and pierce his right eye! His arm will become useless, and his right eye completely blind! The commentary Obadiah through Malachi begins by commenting on the ambiguous nature of the passage. This vague language makes it very difficult to interpret; thus the details remain elusive. The author feels that this passage goes in accordance with the earlier situation described in Zechariah 10:3. In both passages it is made clear that the leaders (shepherds) of Israel have made the Lord angry. Zechariah is describing the social disorder and the peoples' dishonesty toward each other that has overwhelmed the community before it will be restored by God. This commentary is certain that the doomed flock is in fact Israel, but is unsure whom the sheep merchants represent. Their guess is that they may be the workers in the temple who have hired Zechariah. The shepherd is understood as symbolizing a ruling, most likely a prophetic one. Zechariah is telling his audience that Israel is in total disarray and the leaders aren't doing anything to help, in fact some are making the situation worse. God is permitting the corruption by sitting on His hands. While

Pat Conroy

Growing up in what today is considered a dysfunctional family, Pat Conroy took advantage of this opportunity to write some of the most intriguing stories of his past that capture the attention of his readers. In the movie "Prince of Tides" that was based on his life, Pat Conroy attempts to draw the viewer into his own world, and give them the chance to experience the pain that he has experienced while growing up. Brought up in a family that consisted of his mother, father, older brother, and a twin sister, he was introduced to a lot of hate and violence at an early age. His father would physically abuse their mother. When this would go on the three kids would attempt to escape this harsh reality by running to a nearby lake and jump in, trying to stay underwater for as long as possible. This technique however could not let them escape this reality forever. As a child Pat was a peaceful kid. He tended to relate more to his mother, and in return received warm words of compassion from her. She would tell him that he was her favorite child, and that she loved him more than she loved the rest of her kids. She also told him that he would be the only one that would amount up to anything in their whole family because he was the smartest one out of all of them. This seemed to have an unpleasant effect on him. He seemed to feel hurt by hearing his own mother say such things to him. He later found out that his mother told his brother and his sister exactly the same things about them too. Because of incidents like that, Pat later expresses the hate that he has for his mother and his unwillingness to see her. At the age of twelve, Pat, his mother and his sister were all brutally raped by three men that escaped from a nearby prison. This incident had such an effect on his twin poetic sister that she later on in life made several attempts to tak

Is Kitsch always ironic Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Is Kitsch always ironic - Essay Example All the above descriptions of Kitsch should be regarded as just part of a greater framework. More specifically, Kitsch can be related with various aspects of modern life with a special reference to art (as already explained above). Current paper examines a particular aspect of Kitsch: Irony. This sense is mostly related with Kitsch as part of the art trends within a particular society. In other words, the relationship between Kitsch and Irony could be developed mainly in the greater field of art. Towards this direction, it is suggested by Hjort et al. (1997, 229) that ‘the very notion of "taste" in art necessitates the existence of "bad taste" and, consequently, bad art; but bad art comes in many varieties and is subject to different kinds of objections; there is sheer technical incompetence, just to begin with (although artistic inability as such is much less fatal than it used to be)’. The above descriptions of Kitsch could be considered as valid only if referring to a rt; in other parts of social and political life Kitsch would be considered to take different format in accordance with the conditions applied on each particular area. As already mentioned above, Kitsch can have many different aspects. In accordance with a definition given by the Dictionary of Art (London, 1998) ‘â€Å"Kitsch† has sometimes been used (for example, by Harold Rosenberg) to refer to virtually any form of popular art or entertainment, especially when sentimental; but though much popular art is cheap and crude, it is at least direct and unpretentious’. In accordance with the above, it is stated by Calinescu (1987, 260) that ‘seen as a lie, a kitsch work implies a close relationship and even a collaboration of sorts between the kitsch-artist and the kitsch-man; the latter wants to be "beautifully" lied to and the former is willing to play the game in exchange for financial gain;

World War II Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1

World War II - Essay Example Various films have portrayed the subject of World War II in various formats. The world war films have been made with varying themes like war crimes, nuclear holocaust, refugee problems, technology innovations etc. But I have found ‘The Great Escape’ as one of the most interesting films made on WWII. It was made in 1963 and directed by John Sturges. The film is exemplary in its portrayal of human mind that is capable of giving man the inner strength to creatively evolve strategies to defeat enemies in their own ground. The film is all about prisoners of war of Allied forces who are captured by German army. It is a true story which tells how group of POWs tried to escape to freedom from captivity in jail which was supposed to be escape free! The film has treated the serious issue of war from a human angle which is unique. It has sensitively depicted the frustrations of inmates, the inhuman conditions of captivity and optimism of the prisoners who continue to seek new ways to make their way. The major strength of the movie was that prisoners from Allied force coming from different nationality were united in their common cause. They worked together and used their wit and cunning to divert the attention of security so that at least one of them can become free.

Sonnys Blue And Everyday Use

Sonnys Blue And Everyday Use You will never say that these two stories are only mundane waste of ink. Reading these stories, you understand things you have never thought about before. However, what do people think? Did all of them recognize the same these authors did? Each of us should answer this question by own. Years passed but plays, novels on the theme, which James Baldwin Alice Walker talked about, are still writing, and films are still shooting, why? There are things, which we remember, and things, which we cannot forget. Whether this is good or bad is up for opinion. There are some of the most interesting and touching stories, I have ever read. Making my way through long lines of bookshelves in the library these two books caught my eye: Sonnys Blue by James Baldwin and Everyday Use by Alice Walker. After reading them, I understood how good they are for arguing about. All standpoints about these books are contradictory and varied. Nevertheless, you should read these novels to understand and determine what place do they occur in your life. I did. Moreover, I must admit that, they are definitely not just another mundane waste of ink, whatever they can be said to be. However, these stories are believed to be unique, talented and ubiquitous. They are worth of attention, as I will prove it through this paper. So, let me begin to explain. Main question In two stories Sonnys Blue by James Baldwin and Everyday Use by Alice Walker, the authors explore sibling relationships, demonstrating how siblings may feel both love and conflict toward each other. The main mission of the paper is to discuss and analyze the relationships between siblings in these two stories and to explain how conflicts are resolved or not. When I finished reading these two stories, words and snatches of conversations echoed around my head, so I could not sleep. I decided to read them and analyze in order not to be lost in thoughts. This at first glance frantic idea appeared to be overwhelming. All points of view about these books are contradictory and varied. I must admit that Sonnys Blue by James Baldwin as well as Everyday Use by Alice Walker influenced me a lot. These stories are two mysterious worlds, they can be judged or understood, but never wiped off. Creations of its authors, novels include feelings, words, and dearest moments. To sum up, reading these nov els is not mortifying thing, it is not just wasting the time. Anyway, they exist and it is nothing to do. It is mentioned in the source that Sonnys Blue (that was written in 1957 by James Baldwin) opens with the narrator, who reads about his brother named Sonny who was caught in a heroin bust. However, he cannot get his mind off Sonny. Sonny is related to the narrator they are brothers. They keep in contact, and after Sonny gets out of jail, he goes to live with the narrator and his family. They eat a family dinner, which then turns into a flashback about their parents (2010, , pg 2). The relationships between relatives (for example brothers) are always difficult and various. Not always conflicts between brothers could be resolved. Through the story two brothers (narrator and Sonny) are arguing and deciding are they brothers or not. They remember fathers and mothers death and even uncles. Then they have a conflict in interests, when Sonny claimed that he wants to become a pianist and a jazz musician. As it is mentioned, they figure out his living arrangement for the remainder of his hig h school career. Sonny calls his brother ignorant for not knowing who Charlie Parker is, and argues that he does not want to finish high school or live at Isabels (a wife of narrator) parents house. Eventually, Isabels parents have a piano, which Sonny can play whenever he wants, provided he go to school (2010, , pg 2). During the entire story, two main heroes (brothers) argue and have a conflict. Eventually, in the end of story they have a conversation, where Sonny tells his brother about what he feels when his veins are filled with heroin. Sonny also mentions that he would not die in order to stop suffering (at least, he would not die earlier then anybody else would in this case). Finally, narrator accepts Sonny as a brother (even if he is a kind of a drug addict), when he hears how beautiful and magical is Sonnys play in jazz club. The story ends that way. Another story called Everyday Use by Alice Walker. It is said that she illustrates the importance of understanding our present life in relation to the traditions of our own people and culture. Walker personifies the different sides of culture and heritage in the characters of Dee and the mother (the narrator). Dee can be seen to represent a materialistic, complex, and modern way of life where culture and heritage are to be valued only for their trendy-ness and aesthetic appeal. Mother represents a way of life where culture and heritage are valued for both its usefulness as well as its personal significance (2003, pg 1, ). Thus, it must be mentioned that this story contains a conflict between two women (Dee and the mother). Main conflict in the story is that Dee struggle because of creating identity for herself. She wants to change her name. Moreover, her strict heritage can be defined as that of Afro Americans. The point is that Dee was named after her grandmother and aunt. It was a kind of tradition. Finally, through the story Walker illustrates readers that culture is neither name changes nor speaking a foreign tongue. Ones culture and heritage are taught, from one generation to the next, not suddenly picked up or acquired. A person who possesses real heritage and culture make use of it every day of their life (2003, pg 1, ). Conclusion In conclusion, I must admit that both stories touch conflicts and problems that modern people face in their routine daily life very often. The value of these stories is definitely great in nowadays culture, because people can gain some experience from them and look for some answers for their questions. The main mission of the paper was to discuss and analyze the relationships between siblings in these two stories and to explain how conflicts are resolved or not. I believe mission is completed. Sonnys Blue by James Baldwin and Everyday Use by Alice Walker are obviously talented and useful stories in our fast moving contemporary world.

Building effective teams task 6

The use of 360 degree feedback based on peer review as the key method to evaluate an individual’s performance is disputable in human resource management, especially where it is intended as the key method to evaluate an individual’s performance. The decision in favor of it or against it depends on the targeted use of this appraisal tool. It seems perfectly acceptable as a development tool that allows the employee glimpses into his or her performance and areas for improvement. In this context, â€Å"the results from 360-degree feedback are often used by the person receiving the feedback to plan their training and development† (Wikipedia, 2006).However, its use as the tool in decision-making on pay increases or decreases should be restricted for a variety of reasons. First of all, it is not always clear who will pick the evaluators and how this will influence the process.Besides, from the developmental point of view because of the anonymity of the process, those who are being evaluated â€Å"have no recourse if they want to further understand the feedback† (Heathfield, 2006). If suppliers or clients are involved in the process as they frequently are, there is no guarantee that they will be able to assess an individual’s performance adequately, relying on the criteria desired by the management team. Therefore, it seems a good idea to recommend that 360 degree feedback be used as a developmental tool for employees’ reference. The standards performance appraisal by the supervising manager has to be used, however, as a basis for reward decision-making.The manager is better equipped with an understanding of the employee’s contribution to the organization by virtue of the managerial position. However, if the results of the managerial performance appraisal differ dramatically from those obtained via 360 degree feedback, senior management might want to explore the discrepancy.ReferencesHeathfield, S.M. 360 Degree Feedback: Th e Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
